St John's Church Pendlebury, an Eco-Church

What's On

The below information outlines the typical activities that happen each week at St John's Pendlebury. If you would like further information about any of our activities, do reach out to us or just come along and chat to our friendly clergy team.

Sunday School

Every week, we have fun activities for children in the Church Lounge during the Sunday morning service. Children of all ages are welcome, as they learn about faith together through games, videos, stories and craft activities.

Family Services

On the 4th Sunday of every month, instead of a Holy Communion service, we have a Family Service. This is aimed at people of all ages, particularly younger families.

The format of the service will involve a story being told in several parts, with songs throughout and a time to hear more about what we can learn from the Bible. The service lasts for approximately one hour, with drinks and snacks at the end.

Farsi Church

Every Sunday, 2pm - We warmly invite everyone to join us for our worship service in the Farsi language.  The service will start at 2pm each week and will be followed by refreshments at 3pm.

Come and join us for worship and fellowship.

Bible Study Groups

St John's Church hosts regular Bible Study sessions, which are open to everyone, one is held in the daytime and one is held in an evening.

Focus is our fortnightly Monday morning Bible study and fellowship group.  We meet in the Church Lounge from 10am to approximately 11am.

Explore is our mid-week evening group that meets on Wednesday from 7:30pm, with refreshments from around 7:15pm.

See Calendar for dates of upcoming sessions.

The purpose of our Focus and Explore groups is to learn more about God's word together. The Bible Study groups usually have different content. Focus tends to involve more standalone sessions, whereas Explore usually follows a "theme" for a number of weeks. In both groups, the session usually involves reading a part of the Bible together and discussing what this means for us today in our own lives. All are welcome to join, whether new to faith or not, or for those interested in learning more about the Bible.

The sessions are very informal, with plenty of conversation and opportunities to ask questions, discuss and learn together.

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea is our monthly outreach to the community for elderly and those who can’t get out so easily. We meet on the third Wednesday of every month (except January) between 2pm and 3.30pm in the church building where we generally have a speaker or entertainment, followed by a superb afternoon tea.  Anyone from the local community is welcome to come along.

Messy Church

Messy Church is a way of being church for families with messy, busy lives - all of us! For two hours on a Saturday afternoon in Church, we enjoy making a variety of crafts with a Jesus centred theme. We provide a toddlers' table too. Crafts and activities will be followed by a short time of celebration, where we hear a story together and pray. All very relaxed and informal. If you have never been before, why not try it out? The event is free - just come along (check calendar or Facebook for date of next Messy Church - usually the third Saturday of every month). We would love to see you!
